Great spotted woodpecker





The male is feeding the chicks,
Porvoo 15.6.2014.

I found the nest by listening for the chicks.
I thought the nest was on the side I was standing on, 
but it was on the other side. They seldom
use the same hole for more than one summer.

      Thank you Noushka! I was standing on a wooden bridge and I couldn't get to the other side of the tree. :)

    Your shots of the woodpecker are wonderful, so sharp! And to also find a nest of babies, that it exciting. Woodpeckers are one of my favorite bird groups, and they look pretty much the same everywhere. I have Pileated woodpeckers around here but they are hard to spot, even harder to photograph. I do hear them often though.
