The first butterfly

The first butterfly this spring!
I saw it in Espoo Central Park
by lake Mössenkärr, 29.3.2014.

I'm not good at ID:ing butterflies,
but I believe this is a large tortoiseshell.
(Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'm linking to Saturday's Critters

  7. Heisann!

  15. Hi Gunilla, yes I think that it a Large Tortoiseshelle, but it's not got small blue around its wings, maybe it has later. You did very well indeed to shoot him.

  17. En sliten nässelfjäril. Javisst. :)

  19. I envy you your spring - and the butterfly. He does camouflage well, so you were good to spot him. Today it is warm (20C) but by tomorrow they are forecasting more snow :(

  20. I have to study my books and photos to have any chance of identifying any local butterflies. I'm not sure what this one is, but he's beautiful.
