Mute swan with cygnets

Mute swan with four cygnets,
Töölönlahti 11.6.2014.

You can see that one of the cygnets has gotten entangled
in fishing line. The cygnet was taken to Korkeasaari,
the Helsinki Zoo, where the line was removed. The patient
was returned to the rest of the family after the procedure.

I'm linking to I'd Rather B Birdin'.

  3. I used to bring home miles of fishing line every year - some people just dont see to get how damaging it can be.

Nice shots of the original ugly duckling!

    1. Thank you Stewart! It always amazes me that some people don't bother to clean up after themselves whether it's trash or fishing line.

  8. That's always something that irks me....fisherman being so careless doing things like leaving line behind when they leave....we saw a very stressed out pelican in the marina that was tangled up from a line on the shrimp boat. After being alerted to the snared bird, the shrimpers cut the line and freed the pelican. Still, it's maddening.

Great series Gunilla...they're so stately and beautiful. Sweet babies too.

Thanks for linking up this weekend at the Bird D'Pot. Always appreciated.

  13. Very sweet family! We often have birds that get tangled up in fishing line and are taken to the LSU Vet School. So sad when that happens.
