Great crested grebes







Great crested grebes,
Töölönlahti, Helsinki 26.6.2014.

I stood watching the grebes with their three chicks
for quite some time through the reeds.
I couldn't get very close to them, but you can
click on the photos for a bigger view.

      Thank you for hosting! It's always fun to see birds from all around the world. I don't see myself as a serious birder like so many others of you, but I enjoy watching birds when I'm out walking.

    Fantastisk serie på doppingarna! De har ett så eget utseende. Jag har inte tidigare lagt märke till att ungarna har randigt huvud och hals - de är ju inte det minsta lik sina föräldrar.

    How strange that we also have this bird in Australia! I havr never been so fortunate as to see them with chicks though and these photos are lovely!

    Isn't it amazing how they carry their babies! We have grebes on our lake here (back in Oregon now) ... rather plain-looking ones compared to yours, but they are good parents too just like yours. (though we missed the babies this summer).

    So fun to watch.
